In what they call an exclusive story the Daily Star claims that Spanish giants Real Madrid are preparing a massive £40 million bid to get Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea to move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

The former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper signed a new four-year contract at Old Trafford just ten days after a move to Real Madrid fell apart during the summer.

Real Madrid have now confirmed that they will not attempt to sign their long-term target during the January window, but will prepare a massive bid to get their man at the end of what is a turbulent season for Manchester United.

De Gea has a £36 million release clause built into his new contract that the La Liga side says they have no trouble matching plus will throw in a few more million to help sweeten the deal for United.
