Serie A club AS Roma have initiated talks with Radamel Falcao’s super agent Jorge Mendes over a possible move for the former Athletico Madrid striker in the summer according to Corriere dello Sport.

Roma is further reported to be reluctant to make Bosnian Captain Eden Dzeko’s Manchester City’s season long loan deal permanent in the summer. The Italian club who have former Zenith coach Luciano Speletti in charge are dragging their feet over the permanent move of Dzeko due to his high wages which is widely believed would be better channeled towards signing the current Chelsea player.

Another reason for the deal is that, Roma’s Sporting Director, Walter Sabatini is a huge fan of Falcao right from his days at Argentine club River Plate. Falcao moved from Athletico Madrid to Principality club Monaco for £50 million in 2013 before suffering a cruciate ligament injury in January 2015 which ended his season and prevented him from from captaining his country at the FIFA World Cup in Brazil that summer.

Subsequently the forward moved to Manchester United on loan in 2014 and ended up disappointing before sealing a surprise move to Premier League champions Chelsea at the insistence of then Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho who shares the same agent with the striker. This season Falcao has rarely seen game time, struggling with injury and scoring a lone goal all season in the 1-2 home defeat of the Blues by Alan Pardew’s Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

Roma are presently 3rd in the Serie A and occupy the last spot for Champions League football next season.
