Napoli have been making behind the scene moves to line up Lazio goalkeeper Federico Marchetti should they fail to sign on-loan Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina to a permanent deal according to talkSPORT.

The Liverpool shot stopper has been in fine form for the Italians this season, but Napoli fear trying to sign him outright will be complicated because of a £4.5 million buyout clause he has in his contract.

With this in mind Napoli is putting a plan B in place by targeting the 31-year-old Marchetti who is playing his third season for the Rome club.

Capped 11 times by Italy and part of their squad for last season’s Confederations Cup he is also being looked at by Arsenal and Manchester United who are both looking for new number two keepers for their clubs.

This of course now raises doubt as to where the Liverpool keeper could end up with the possibility of him returning to Anfield where he could play as their European and Cup keeper similar to Iker Casillas at Real Madrid.
