Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will be looking to put last Saturdays 2-1 loss against Spurs behind him when Leicester City visits the Emirates on Tuesday night.

Arsenal through away a one goal lead at White Hart Lane on Saturday after they allowed Spurs striker Harry Kane to score a brace giving Tottenham their first win against Arsenal in five games.

Wenger is now expecting a reaction from his team in Tuesday as they hope to get back to their winning ways against lowly Leicester City.

“If you respond well, it’s very good,” he told the press. “We play at home against Leicester – a team who are fighting not to go down – so always we have to recover from that disappointment and be ready to respond very quickly.”

The win for Spurs saw Mauricio Pochettino’s men move above Arsenal into fifth place, but the Frenchman remains certain that the Gunners will still finish above Spurs.

“We have played two more away games than Spurs,” he added. “Spurs have played 13 at home and 11 away and we have played 13 away and 11 at home so I think it’s down to our home form now. We know we can win away from home but it will be a battle until the end. It has been every year with Spurs, you know.

“We just have to focus on us with that many teams fighting to get in there [into the top four].”

Bottom of the league Leicester with just 17 points after 24 games come into the fixture knowing that the bookies have them favourites to go down, and amongst all their problems there were rumours flying around this morning saying that manager Nigel Pearson had been the sacked.

The club however have come out and said that the rumours were wrong issuing a statement that said the 51-year-old Englishman was still in charge:

“Reports to the contrary are inaccurate and without foundation,” it said.

“Nigel, his staff and the first team squad are entirely focused on Tuesday night’s trip to Arsenal and our continued efforts to secure our position in the Premier League.”

Despite all the talk of his demise Pearson remains focused on Tuesday nights match.

“For myself as the manager of the side who are bottom of the Premier League, what I can’t do is hide from the facts,” he told reporters. “The facts are that we are where we are and, so far, we have not been beaten in a game where we’ve been absolutely rollercoastered.

“We looked like we could have been in the first half against Man United, but we rallied in the second half. We’ve been competitive.

“We’re not going get downbeat by how people possibly want to write us off after a result like [Saturday].”
