Former Kop idol Javier Mascherano has opened the door for what would be a sensational return to English football by joining his former club Liverpool for around £9 million according to the Daily Mirror.
The 29-year-old Barcelona midfielder only has a year left on his contract at the Nou Camp with his agent already sounding out potential suitors which includes clubs in the Premier League.
Napoli boss Rafa Benitez supposedly has the Argentinian on his hit list, but with Mascherano having enjoyed his time on Merseyside Brendan Rodgers might want to consider a player with his experience ahead of the Reds return to European football.
The former Liverpool man feels he may have already played his last game for the Catalan giants after he said recently: “It could be the last for many players.”
