Not too long ago all you read about was that Manchester United was in the process of signing Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels with a move away from the Signal Iduna Park a formality.

The situation now however seems to have changed after it was announced that trainer Jürgen Klopp would be replaced by Thomas Tuchel at the North Rhine Westphalia club next season while BVB midfielder Ilkay Gundogan is 100% certain to also leave.

The Manchester Evening News seems to think that with so many changes going on within the club they may be tempted to hold onto the £25 million rated centre-half for one more season telling their readers:

And there is growing concern that Gundogan’s decision could stop long-term target Hummels from moving to Old Trafford during the next transfer window.

Hummels, who is under contract until 2017, is yet to announce where he will play next season.

Van Gaal was keen to sign the 26-year-old centre-back last summer, only for Dortmund to knock back his interest having already lost Robert Lewandowski to Bayern Munich.

The Hummels saga certainly has a long way to go, but given the current situation at the club we feel a move to Old Trafford is certainly still a possibility.
