Manchester United wants to win the Premiership

Manchester United has still not given up on their chance to win the title says manager Louis van Gaal.

Ahead of today’s Boxing Day clash with Newcastle United at Old Trafford LVG’s team is third in the league ten points behind leaders Chelsea.

Despite having a slow start to the season the Red Devils went on to win six matches in a row before drawing 1-1 with Aston Villa last weekend.

“Our goal is still to be the champion at the end of the season. It is always to be first,” Van Gaal told the BBC.

Following United’s 1-0 defeat to rivals City in early December the 63-year-old Dutchman said the club was in a rebuilding process that could take up to three years despite having spent £150 million during the summer on new players.

At the start of the season the United board would have been happy if the club could make a top-four finish and bring back Champions League football to Old Trafford , but the former Ajax and Barcelona manager LVG said: “With my players and all the staff, we are trying to achieve more than they expect.”
