Manchester United to return for former Striker target with a £48m bid

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has been busy these last few days as he starts to put together his new look squad, but one place where he has still to find an answer is a world-class striker to lead the Red Devils attack.

According to the Daily Telegraph the 63-year-old Dutch manager already has a player in mind, and it is someone who in the past was heavily links to a move to Old Trafford when he used to play for Borussia Dortmund, and that is Robert Lewandowski.

In the end the Polish international choose to move to Bayern Munich where he managed to score 17 goals in 30 Bundesliga appearances for the Bavarians last season.

The German champions have no desire to sell their top striker, but United will try and tempt them with a bid of £44.7 million according to British tabloid the Daily Star.

Whether this will get the Red Devils a meeting at the Allianz Arena remains to be seen, but certainly for a Manchester United fan it has to be called a step in the right direction.
