Already knowing that they will have to take a loss should they sell Angel Di Maria to Paris Saint-Germain after the French champions told United boss Louis van Gaal they were prepared to pay £49 million for the Argentinian winger some £10.7 million less than United paid to Real Madrid for the 27-year-old last summer, Dutchman LVG has a cunning plan and will use the same technique he has applied in the clubs dealings regarding goalkeeper David De Gea.

The 63-year-old former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss has been around the block a few times, and knows that if you want something badly enough you will be prepared to make a few concessions to get what you want.

In the case of De Gea, LVG has said: “Yes we will sell him to you, but in return we want Sergio Ramos.”   The same thing applies with Angel Di Maria, and that is United is prepared to sell, but in return they want Edinson Cavani.

With the departure of Radamel Falcao, and now Robin van Persie signing for Fenerbahce, the Red Devils are only left with two strikers, Wayne Rooney and James Wilson, with the latter being linked with a loan move to Steve Bruce’s Hull City.

This now, and probably for the thousandth time has Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani being linked with a move to Old Trafford, with reliable source Jamie Jackson of the Guardian saying United is as close as they have ever been to signing the 28-year-old striker, and that he is LVG’s first choice.

On Sunday, in an interview with Le Parisien, PSG boss Laurent Blanc admitted he likes Di Maria “a lot”.

So as you can see a deal is there to be made now all United needs to do is get round the table with their French counterparts and put a deal together that will suit everyone concerned.
