Manchester United was already thought to have done a deal to bring Southampton right-back Nathaniel Clyne to Old Trafford, yet is we believe what he said yesterday while talking to the Southern Daily Echo as deal is far from done.

“I am happy playing for Southampton and happy to stay at Southampton as well,” said Clyne.

Meanwhile Saints Dutch manager Ronald Koeman hopes to have a deal done and dusted by the end of the season that sees the England international commit his future to St Marys.

“I am enjoying my football for Southampton, playing week-in, week-out, and it is an up-and-coming club,” added Clyne.

“My agent is negotiating, so I will just leave it with my agent and I am just going to concentrate on playing my football.”

Clyne did however say that he believed his next step should involve Champions League football, so we will see just how determined Louis van Gaal is to sign him up for Manchester United.
