Manchester United is looking to sign Benfica’s Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matic during the January transfer window, but could face still opposition from Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund.
The former Chelsea reserve player Matic went to Benfica in a deal that saw David Luiz move to Stamford Bridge, and know that it will be difficult to hold on to their £20 million rated player should either United or Dortmund come after him.
After missing out on a number of midfield targets during the summer that included Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas, United manager David Moyes knows he must bring in a player in the New Year with Michael Carrick out injured and Marouane Fellaini needing an operation on his wrist.
