With it almost certain now that Manchester United is not going to take up the £40 million option and sign Colombian striker Radamel Falcao to a permanent deal manager Louis van Gaal has drawn up a short list of players who could replace the 29-year-old next season at Old Trafford.

Falcao was known as El Tigre when he played for Atletico Madrid, but since a knee operation he is no longer the player he once was scoring just four goals in 17 appearances for the Red Devils who even had him turn out for the U-21 team last week in the hope he could find his scoring boots again.

Top of the list is Paris Saint-Germain’s Edinson Cavani, followed by Palermo’s Argentinian hot-shot Paulo Dybala with the Premiership duo of Danny Ings and Saido Berahino the other two names.

If we had to put money on who United would sign it would definitely be the West Brom striker Berahino unless the Baggies ask a crazy price for him.
