Manchester United announced on Tuesday night the signing of Argentine midfielder, Marcos Rojo from Sporting Lisbon of Portugal with Louis Nani reportedly going the other way for a season long loan in a deal worth £16 million.

Born on 20th day of March, 1990, Faustino Marcos Alberto Rojo is a defender from Argentina started his club career that can play both in the centre back position as well as the left back position.

He could also be moved up higher as a winger probably fitting in well to the wing back position for Manchester United.

The 6ft tall defender played in Estudiantes LP youth team between 2000 and 2008 before been promoted to the senior team where he spent 3 years amassing 43 appearances with 3 goals.

In 2010, the defender signed a 5 year deal with Russian club Spartak Moscow.

His stay in Moscow was unsuccessful with only 8 appearances.

In 2012, Rojo signed for Sporting Lisbon for £3.5 million and went on to become an important part of the team where he spent a lot of time playing as a centre back.

His ability to play at the left back position was fully explored during the 2014 FIFA world cup in Brazil.

With the likes of Ezekiel Garay and Demichelis picking the centre back spots. Rojo performed well for Argentina at the world cup with his goal against Nigeria in a group stage match highlighting his general involvement.

Rojo has made 28 appearances for Argentina scoring just one goal but seem to be an important part of the team now.

Recalling the signing made in 2004, Gabriel Heinze signed for Manchester United.

The Argentine also played in both left back and centre back positions and the arrival of Rojo could mark the same if he can rise to that top level.

The key involvement of Rojo at the world cup playing with the likes of Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria should have added to his level of improvement.

Manchester United will be hoping to capitalise on that and his versatility on the left side of the pitch to make maximum use of the player.

With recent bulk of injury worries for Louis Van Gaal, Marcos Rojo is expected to be thrown straight away into the United squad who had just 2 senior defenders available in the last EPL match against Swansea in Old Trafford.

Marcos Rojo’s arrival will not relieve the pressure on Ed Woodward as fans are expecting more big arrivals in the club before the end of transfer window in less than two weeks.

Manchester United is still reported to be in for the versatile Daley Blind, Mehdi Benatia, Angel Di Maria and Arturo Vidal with Louis Van Gaal realising he will need to make important signings in some particular positions to help with the balance of the squad.
