Italian sports daily La Gazzetta dello Sport is running an interesting story this morning claiming that both Manchester United and Chelsea is interested in signing Zenit St Petersburg midfielder Axel Witsel this summer.

One of the stars of Belgium’s golden generation , Witsel joined Zenit from Benfica in 2012 for £29 million, but now appears fed up with life in Russia and is looking to move west with his most likely destination Juventus according to the pink paper.

With Paul Pogba almost 100% likely to leave in the summer and the possibility that Arturo Vidal will follow him out the door it would make sense for the Bianconeri to make a move for the 26-year-old who has already admitted that he is in talks with the Italian champions.

Meanwhile Manchester United has been following Witsel since his days as a youngster with Standard Liege, and if LVG fails to sign Bastian Schweinsteiger from Bayern Munich he could well switch his attention to the Belgium who claims to be a United supporter since he was a young boy.

Chelsea for their part have a wonderful player in Nemanja Matic, but manager Jose Mourinho is looking to add to his squad and could bring in Eden Hazard’s teammate to provide competition in the DM department while also making sure he has all bases covered.
