Manchester City has just had a £47 million bid rejected by Bundesliga runners up Wolfsburg for midfield playmaker Kevin De Bruyne.

The Lower Saxony club has been playing tough with City over the sale of the Belgium international, but has at least told City now that they are prepared to sell the 24-year-old to City if they meet the German clubs £57 million valuation.

After having already spent £49 million this summer for Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling, City must now decide if they want to smash their record signing fee and pay the £57 million for De Bruyne or just walk away.

Wolfsburg upped their star player’s salary to £150,000 per-week in the hope of convincing him to stay at the club, but with City prepared to pay £200,000 per-week, the Bundesliga side just cannot compete with one of the Premierships richest clubs.
