Manchester City planned a Raid on United if they failed to sign Raheem Sterling

According to the Daily Telegraph Manchester City had a plan B in place just in case they were unable to complete the signing of Liverpool forward Raheem Sterling, and that was to go after Manchester United winger Angel Di Maria.

Even given the Argentinian international’s struggles to adapt to life in the Premiership following his British record £59.7 million move from Real Madrid last summer, surely it would be unthinkable to even imagine the Red Devils selling to their cross town rivals no matter how much City would have been prepared to pay for the 27-year-old.

Saying all this however it is apparent that the only solution at present is for Di Maria to return to Europe and put all his troubles in England behind him.

Currently it would appear as if Paris Saint-Germain is the main front-runner after having reportedly made a £45 million bid, and while Manchester United would like to sign Edinson Cavani there is a deal there to be made.
