According to Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal Manchester City following their 1-0 at Turf Moor to Burnley on Saturday is now part of the “rat race” for a top four finish to the season.
Van Gaal made this claim following what many people will say was his team’s best performance of the season beating Tottenham 3-0 at home on Sunday as United moved within two point of their second placed neighbour.
Chelsea meanwhile moved six points clear of City with a game in hand after having drawn 1-1 at home to Southampton.
“We have to take it step by step, it is a rat race,” said Van Gaal. “We are within two points of second position, but first position in my opinion is too far away.
“Of course they [Manchester City] have been dragged in. Arsenal is only one point behind them and we are only two points behind.
“It is good for us, the fans and for the media because you can write a lot of things about it now.”
