Quoted in today’s Sunday Times supplement, journalist Oliver Kay claims that Manchester City is head-over-heals in love with former Barcelona trainer Pep Guardiola and would give anything to see the Catalan move to the Etihad.

Speculation currently surrounds the future of current manager Manuel Pellegrini after City failed to win any silverware this season, and now as they plan to over haul their aging squad this summer there are doubts as to whether or not the Chilean is the right man for the task ahead.

“If Guardiola was available last summer, they would have happily traded in Pellegrini for him even though they won the league,” Kay told the Sunday Supplement.

“The desperation to get Guardiola is hard to describe, they love him. Would they get him, though, that’s the question. I think it’s pretty unlikely.”

Currently Guardiola having won the Bundesliga title with Bayern Munich is preparing to return to his former club when Barcelona hosts the German champions on May 6th for the first leg of their Champions League semi-final.
