Former Manchester United star Gary Neville has revealed that he is afraid that Liverpool could damage United’s hope of a top-four finish and being able to play Champions League football next season.

While Neville still believes his former club will finish in the top-four he confessed to fellow television football pundit and former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher that he is afraid of Liverpool given the Merseysider’s recent form.

Neville said: “While I said that I think Manchester United will finish in the top four, I’m a lot more concerned about it than I was three or four weeks ago – particularly about Liverpool.

“They obviously now have come into a run of form where they are keeping clean sheets and they are playing a lot better.

“I wasn’t as concerned a few weeks ago; thinking they were seven or eight points behind and they had the cup commitments they have got coming up. But now they’re within a fairly short distance of Man United I think I am more concerned.

“I still think, in the end, [their extra European games] will be too much but I am more concerned than I was.”
