Manchester United is set to go up against cross town rivals Manchester City in their bid to sign AS Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan according to Italian sports newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport.

After having arrived in the eternal city just over a year ago from Serie A side Cagliari, the Belgium international has sparked the interest of both the Northwest clubs.

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal was originally interested in signing Kevin Strootman but has now given up hope of signing his fellow countryman due to his reoccurring knee problems, and has now turned his attention to Strootman’s Roma teammate Nainggolan.

Nainggolan is still co-owned with Cagliari, and the Sardinian side would be happy to cash in on their jointly owned player and perhaps be willing to offer Roma 18-year-old Ghanaian international Godfred Donsah as a replacement for the Belgium.
