With David De Gea almost certainly going to join Real Madrid this summer Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal asked goalkeeping coach Frans Hoek to draw up a shortlist of candidates he thinks would be up to the job of taking over the goalkeeping job at Old Trafford.

The now 58-year-old former Netherlands shot-stopper did not have to think hard when making current Holland goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen top of his list.

The 26-year-old Ajax goalkeeper is already well-known to LVG after the 63-year-old manager selected him to represent Holland in last summer’s World Cup in Brazil over Newcastle United’s Tim Krul, and would have no problem convincing Cillessen to swap Ajax for Manchester United adding once more to the growing Orange contingent at the Field of Dreams.

Cillessen will cost the Red Devils around £20 million, and LVG has assured his friend, Ajax manager Frank De Boer that he will keep him up to speed with developments just as he did last summer before signing Daley Blind.
