SPURS are trying to persuade Luka Modric to sign a new contract that will keep him out of the clutches of Chelsea and Manchester City.

Luk warm response

The Croatia midfielder, 26, was a £40million transfer target for the Blues in the summer, while City have made no secret of their own admiration.

But White Hart Lane chairman Daniel Levy insists the club would not sell at any price.

And suggestions of a new contract aimed at doubling Modric’s £50,000-a-week pay packet quickly followed once the transfer window closed.

But boss Harry Redknapp revealed: “I don’t know where we are at with Luka. I’m sure the club is looking to tie him up.”

Sources have indicated Modric is concerned over the future of Redknapp, who is tipped to take over as England manager.

Spurs midfielder Niko Kranjcar’s season is over. He suffered a knee injury in training last week.

Redknapp said: “Niko’s out for the season.”
