Following on from the news that Manchester United is about to trigger Christian Benteke’s £32.5 million release clause Liverpool has made a bid for Zenit St. Petersburg striker Salomon Rondon according to reports in Italy.

Calcio News 24 claims the Reds are not alone in their desire to sign the Venezuelan international with Wolfsburg and Roma also interested in signing the 25-year-old.

Roma however may drop out of the race should they be successful in signing Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko.

Liverpool is desperate for a player that can score goals, and given the fact Rondon scored 20 goals in 36 matches to help Zenit win the Russian league last season he could turn out to be a better buy than Benteke while costing only half what the Red’s would have to pay for the big Belgium, while also being more suitable to Liverpool’s style of play.

Check out Rondon in the video below and see if you think he would make a good signing for Liverpool.
