According to Italian media sources and carried in the Liverpool Echo, the Reds are now desperate to sign a goalkeeper following the injury yesterday to Brad Jones during the match with Burnley.

According to Italian daily newspaper Il Corriere Mercantile, the Reds want to send Mario Balotelli on loan to Sampdoria in exchange for Argentinian international goalkeeper Sergio Romero.

Romero’s contract runs out in the summer so Sampdoria would rather sell him for something in January than see him walk for free during the summer.

Liverpool will face competition from Manchester City, but the thought of being a starting keeper at Anfield rather than a number two at the Etihad should be enough to persuade the 27-year-old to move to Merseyside rather than Manchester.

Romero has only played ten times for Sampdoria this season and has not kept a single clean sheet, but he does look far more confident than Mignolet with an average of 2.70 saves per game.
