Real Madrid misfit midfielder Asier Illarramendi has officially been put up for sale, and after having tracked the 25-year-old for some time Liverpool is prepared to make Los Blanco’s an offer believed to be in the region of £8.5 million.

The Spanish giants meanwhile see him as being worth £10 million plus add-ons, and have made contact with other clubs regarding his availability, but it is Liverpool who is believed to be leading the race, with the Reds keen to get a deal done once the transfer window opens.

The former Real Sociedad midfielder first came to our attention at Soccer Transfers back in 2013 where we watched him represent Spain in that years U-21 European Championship in Israel.

With a display of epic proportions he along with Isco, Morata and Thiago not only helped Spain win the tournament, but also caught the eye of Real Madrid.

Unfortunately for Illarra he joined a team that already had Luka Modric, and now has Toni Kroos and Lucas Silva. He also seems to be suffering from a lack of confidence always playing the safe ball rather than providing a killer pass, which is why Real Madrid has decided to let him go.

If Liverpool does manage to sign him he will be surrounded by young players, and will certainly get the playing time he missed in the Spanish capital, but it will be up to manager Brendan Rodgers to help get the players confidence back, and if he can manage that they will have a brilliant signing as you can see from the video below of his performances for Real Sociedad.
