Liverpool to battle Roma for La Liga defender

Barcelona’s 30-year-old Brazilian full-back Adriano has revealed that after five successful years at the Nou Camp that it is now time to move on after having watched former Valencia defender Jordi Alba take over the starting role for the Catalan giants.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is known to be a big fan of the former Sevilla player, and would love to bring him to Anfield just to add that bit more experience into his very young team.

According to Barcelona-based newspaper El Mundo Deportivo, the former Sevilla defender told his Barcelona team-mates he will not be playing at the Nou Camp next season.

And while the 30-year-old would not cost Liverpool much money the talk is that he is looking for a three-year-deal worth around £2.5m per season.

If Rodgers is serious about bringing Adriano to Merseyside he could face competition from Serie A side Roma, who have already made an offer according to his agent Paulo Affonso, who said: “[Roma’s offer] is very tempting and he thinks it’s time for a change.

“It’s time to face new challenges and take advantage of the offer of a big Italian team.

“We have a perfect relationship with everyone at Barcelona and they have been very good to us.

“As professionals we have to handle the situation with intelligence and patience to reach an agreement for a transfer.”
