Brazilian striker Diego Costa has just returned to Spain following Atletico Madrid’s pre-season tour of South America, and said when he heard about the Merseyside club making a bid for him: “I’m well here, I’m happy here.

“As I’ve been in Argentina and Uruguay I’ve not heard anything about this.

“I’m happy here, if the club want me to be here, I’m going to be here.

“I think that our coach (Diego Simeone) counts on all of us, not just me.

“He knows how important it is to maintain the squad, the fans know it as well.”

Liverpool are reported to have made a bid of £21.8 million for the striker who scored  20 times in 44 appearances for the club last season, and while Liverpool might be disappointed to hear that Costa is happy to stay in Madrid the Reds are still confident that they can get him.
