According to former Sunderland striker Kevin Phillips Sunderland manager Gus Poyet is desperate to sign a stinker in January after seeing the Black Cats manage just 16 goals in 19 games.

Sky Sports expert Phillips says they need to improve up front saying:

“If you take away the 8-0 thrashing at Southampton, Sunderland are right up there in terms of the toughest defences in the Premier League, which just highlights the area they need to work on is putting the ball in the back of the net. Drawing games doesn’t keep you up – you need to start winning some at some point. That’s what he’ll be looking to address.”

BORINI IS BLACK CATS’ MOST LIKELY SIGNING

At 5/2, Sky Bet considers Fabio Borini Sunderland’s most likely January signing, whether on loan or a permanent deal.
