The Ajax midfielder has been on the Kop radar for more than 12 months — but the Dutch side’s previous demands scuppered any chance of bringing him to Merseyside.

But Eriksen, 21, now has just over a year left on his contract and a bid of around £15million would capture him.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has already drawn up alternatives in Shakhtar Donetsk’s Armenian star Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Newcastle ace Hatem Ben Arfa in case he cannot tempt the Denmark international to Anfield.

Yet despite interest from Manchester United, Spurs and Arsenal as well as Italian giants Inter Milan, Liverpool remain favourites to get him as fellow Dane Daniel Agger and former Ajax team-mate Luis Suarez are both at Anfield.

Eriksen said: “I don’t know if I will be an Ajax player after the summer. I will probably start up training with them and then we will see what happens. I don’t exclude anything.”

The one thing Rodgers is keen to avoid is being left short of numbers. He had to go into this season with Suarez as his sole senior attacker after missing out on Clint Dempsey.
