Liverpool Star doubtful for clash with Chelsea

Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp is facing a striker crisis at Anfield after former Aston Villa front-man Christian Benteke added his name to the already full list of injured strikers at the club.

The Belgium international will be out of tonight’s Capital One Cup clash with Bournemouth after having picked up an injury during the 1-1 draw with Southampton last weekend.

A scan has revealed that the damage is not as severe as was first thought, it still has Klopp sweating on whether or not he will be available for the trip to Stamford Bridge.

Already missing from the team are Danny Ings and Daniel Sturridge after he was found to have fluid on his knee following a clash with Jordan Ibe in training.

Speaking about the England striker Klopp said: “It’s getting better but not quick enough to change the situation for us.

“He is in the gym but not up to normal football training, so we will have to wait.

“It is something like a knock, it is like a reaction in the knee and it has fluid inside.

“He can walk, he can swim but that’s not going to help him playing football.

“There is fluid in the knee, not too much that’s why we can say it’s not serious, we don’t have to think about surgery, or things like this but he needs time.”

The German also confirmed that there will be changes for tonight’s match, but added he was taking the competition seriously.

He added: “We have to change the team a little bit now but at this moment I don’t know how many.

“I will make them not because the tournament isn’t important but because I want to win the game.

“We’ve had three games in last eight or nine days, so we have to change, we have injured players, suspended players, little problems where we don’t want to risk people.”
