Following on from last night’s defeat to Tottenham at White Hart lane Liverpool will want to come back strong against a struggling Southampton at Anfield on Saturday to finish a week in which they hoped to have at least four points. Now with only three points left to play for I will be betting the Reds to deliver the goods at home making Liverpool my top betting pick this weekend. To see a list of all the the latest Premier League odds along with my top pick click here Liverpool v Southampton Saturday December 1st kick-off 3pm GMT.

After watching last night’s match against Spurs I think the Reds apart from the first quarter of an hour were the better team and were unlucky not to have a few decisions go their way even after the match Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers said when talking about referee Phil Dowd’s decisions: “Steven Gerrard was assaulted for the first one.

“It was frightening how the ref didn’t give it. And then he missed Luis Suarez getting kicked by William Gallas.

“It’s incredible that we haven’t had a penalty all season.

“I don’t know what the players have to do to get one.

“Everything went against us because Clint Dempsey dived to win the free-kick that led to Gareth Bale scoring their second goal.

“I couldn’t say how many points the refs have cost us. I could go through a whole raft of wrong penalty and offside decisions that were actually pretty straightforward.

“If it evens itself out we must get a lot of decisions in our favour later in the season.”

Southampton  have not lost in their last four outings but have dropped more points when leading in a match than any other team in the Premiership while also being the league leaders with the worst goals against record with 31.

Southampton are now using their third goalkeeper this season Paulo Gazzaniga who made a horrible mistake last night against Norwich allowing the Canary’s to leave the Dell with a point, and I do not see things being any better for him at Anfield.

Both these teams like to play possession football with the last time Southampton played this type of team they got thrashed 6-0 by Arsenal. While I am not expecting that big a goal margin I will be expecting a Liverpool victory in a game that Rodgers will be telling his team is a must win if they have any aspirations still of a top five finish as an outside bet I would certainly back Luis Suarez for the first goal with Paddy Power at 13/5 and maybe also for a hat-trick at 17/2.

“Common You Reds”.
