Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is ready to hand Brad Jones a new contract – and save a major goalkeeping problem.

Giant Australian Jones will be given a new deal to stop him leaving at the end of the season for nothing as Rodgers avoids a looming headache.

Jones had some stand-out displays in Pepe Reina’s absence and the former Middlesbrough number one did enough to convince Rodgers that he is worth having around.

The popular Anfield shot-stopper is also happy to carry on competing for the jersey despite being close to leaving when Norwich tried for him earlier in the season.

Rodgers hopes to tie down Jones on a new deal very quickly before reviewing his other keepers – with Reina still possibly leaving in the next two windows.

The Liverpool chief did not want to face the prospect of finding TWO new keepers and banking on Jones makes his life easier if a top club comes in for Reina in January or next summer.
