Liverpool are starting to get fed up with the way Southampton is blocking England midfielder Adam Lallana from moving to Anfield , and have told the Saints that they may move on and try and sign Benfica winger Lazar Markovic instead.

Liverpool is according the Daily Mirror only prepared to pay just over £20 million for the £26-year-old Lallana while Southampton think his value is nearer the £30 million mark.

Serbian international Markovic was said to be a Liverpool target at the end of last season, but with Benfica putting a £30 price tag on their star player it put Liverpool off.

The belief now however is that the Portuguese club may be willing to accept £25 million for the 20-year-old who is equally as talented as Lallana and also six years younger.

Meanwhile other Anfield news is that Italian striker Fabio Borini is set to return to Anfield next month after a season long loan at Sunderland and believes he still has a future at Liverpool despite their recent signing of Rickie Lambert.

When Borini’s agent Marco De Marchi was asked about the 23-year-old he said: “Does Lambert’s arrival close the door on Fabio Borini? No, I don’t think so.

“So, after his holidays, he will go back to Liverpool to prepare for the new season wearing the shirt of this historic club. He wants to compete with everyone and be an extra resource for the coach and the team.”
