Eager to carry on from their success this season Liverpool are hitting the transfer market early in a bid to get the team prepared for Champions League football next season.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is already busy negotiating with Southampton over Adam Lallana, and has now raised the odds and the amount of money by offering to pay £40 million if the Saints are prepared to include Croatian centre-back Dejan Lovren.

The deal for Lallana seems done after the midfielder said that Liverpool was the only club he wanted to play for shunning offers from Tottenham and Manchester United according to the Daily Mirror.

Lovren only arrived at St Marys last summer from Lyon for a fee of around £8m, but has since proven that he can cope with the physicality of the English game and could very well be the type of defensive leader that Rodgers is looking for.
