Liverpool needs to sign a new left-back to complete their summer shopping

We all know it and manger Brendan Rodgers knows it also, and that is that Liverpool need to sign a new left back to provide competition for Alberto Moreno.

To give the Spaniard his due, many players have a hard time adapting to life in the Premiership especially after moving to England from Italy and Spain where players are given much more time on the ball, and are unused to the pace and physicality of the English game.

Pushing forward Moreno looked good, but in his defensive duties he was found lacking on several occasions, which is why Brendan Rodgers is trying to sign Paris Saint-Germain Left-back Lucas Digne.

The 22-year-old is keen to get more playing time ahead of next summer’s European Championships, yet finds himself behind Brazilian, Maxwell in trainer Laurent Blanc’s pecking order.

Blanc however is not interested in losing Dinge, warning the Reds that he will not let the youngster leave the Parc des Princes this summer according to L’Equipe.

With Jose Enrique likely headed for the Anfield exit, Liverpool needs to either make PSG a good offer knowing that they would like to balance the books should they buy Angel Di Maria from Manchester United , or at least offer the French Champions a loan deal that would allow Liverpool to have the first option on Dinge next summer.

Failing that the answer could already be new signing Joe Gomez, who despite normally playing as a centre-back started out on the left for Liverpool in their recent match against the Adelaide fear.

Here is what Rodgers had to say about Gomez following the match:

“He’s only 18 years of age, but seeing him play at left-back for the first time, he looked an outstanding athlete and a really good footballer.

“I’ve seen him at centre-half and at right-back, but I wanted to see him at left-back – and I thought he was outstanding,” added Rodgers.
