With long-serving captain Steven Gerrard set to leave Anfield this summer to join MLS side the LA Galaxy, Liverpool want to send a message of their intent by bringing in a big name signing to lessen the pain.

One player they are looking at is Paris Saint-Germain attacking midfielder Javier Pastore who has been impressive for The French champions since moving to Paris from Palermo in 2011 for a reported 40€ million.

Meanwhile Roma and Juventus would like to take the 25-year-old Argentinian back to Italy, while Liverpool hope that the chance of playing in the Premiership will be enough to get him to move to Merseyside.

PSG certainly will not let him leave on the cheap, and it will be a huge show of support for the future of the club if the American owners sanction a move.

One thing they will want to know before entering negotiations is if they seriously think that can get Pastore to move to Anfield as another Memphis Depay situation will want to be avoided at all costs.

Here at Soccer Transfers we think that Liverpool not being in the Champions League will be a big deterrent for a player like Pastore as will leaving the city of light for the city on the Mersey.

One player Liverpool do have a shot at getting though is Inter Milan’s Croatian international Mateo Kovačić as Milan looks to raise money for Yaya Toure.

The 21-year-old is not as high profile as Pastore, but is younger and will be a good fit in Brendan Rodgers team.
