In what the website The Anfield Wrap is calling an exclusive interview, German U-21 international Emre Can says he is ready to step in and take over from departing Captain Steven Gerrard.

When asked if he would feel comfortable playing in Gerrard’s position next season Can said:“Of course. I want to play in the midfield. I can take the responsibility.”

Confirming that he sees his role at Liverpool as a midfielder Can added that he and manager Brendan Rodgers discuss it often.

“We talk all the time. He sees me as a midfield player, and I hope next season that I play in midfield…. He talks with me every day and tells me what I can do better (to play in midfield). I have to work on my game, and he helps me everyday.”

He also talked about the physical nature of the English game and said he had no trouble giving back what he received from the opposition players.

When asked about how he had settled in at Anfield the German said: “I am now nearly one year here and of course I feel more at home. The people here are really friendly… All the fans are knowledgeable about football. They know everything about the football club.”
