Liverpool’s Danish international defender has been speaking about leaving the club if he does not find a way to get back into the first team.

The 28-year-old defender has not started a game since the Reds lost to Southampton 1-0 back in September with summer signings Kolo Toure and Mamadou Sakho along with Slovakian international Martin Skrtel getting the nod over the Dane.

There has been plenty of speculation in the press over a possible move to Barcelona for Agger, as the Catalans look to replace Carlos Puyol who is now 36-years-old.

When Agger who just signed a contract extension till 2016 with Liverpool was asked what it would take to make him leave Anfield the Dane said: “If I don’t play. If the manager doesn’t think I’m good enough that could make me leave Liverpool.

“I’m here to play football, nothing else. So if I don’t play football, then I don’t want to be here.”

Liverpool manager Rodgers admitted that it is not easy to make him change his way of thinking.

“In the run of games Martin Skrtel has had, he’s gained confidence and that has meant I’ve acknowledged and recognised that he’s playing at a really good level,” said Rodgers.

“I’ve always tried to show fairness with the players.

“If you are playing well, you’ll play. If you’re not, you’ll be in and out of the team.”
