Liverpool Boss tells Benteke he will have to fight for a STARTING PLACE

With Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke due to have his medical in Liverpool in the coming hours following the departure of club doctor Andy Massey from Liverpool’s pre-season tour of Australia and the Far East.

The now 25-year-old striker will be expected to be at Liverpool’s Melwood Training Facility on Wednesday along with new boy Roberto Firmino.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers currently has 12 attack minded players in his squad, and has let his No.1 summer target Christian Benteke know that he must justify the reason the Reds paid Villa £32.5 million for him.

“There is no player that has come to the club and guaranteed to play every single game,” said Rodgers. “We aim to do well in all competitions and it is a squad being built to cope with it all.”
