According to reports in Spain, Liverpool’s owners the Fenway Sports Group have approached former real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti over the possibility of the 55-year-old replacing Brendan Rodgers at Anfield.

Despite a brilliant first season at Madrid that saw Los Blanco’s win the Champions League, Italian trainer Ancelotti fell up short this season not winning the La Liga title while also failing in all cup competitions.

Not used to failure club president Florentino Perez fired Ancelotti and now looks poised to appoint Napoli manager and fellow Spaniard Rafa Benitez to the job.

Meanwhile as the managerial round about looks set to go on a summer spin, Spanish sports newspaper Marca in linking Ancelotti with a move to Merseyside saying despite the Italian claiming he wants to take some time off, Liverpool would be the only club to make him change his mind.
