Liverpool has been making moves to try and sign Lazio attacking midfielder Antonio Candreva after having watched him have a banner season at the Stadio Olimpico.

The 27-year-old Italian international is currently playing for Italy in Brazil, but it was his 12 goals and six assists that helped Lazio finish ninth in Serie A last season that has sparked interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus along with long-term admirers Liverpool in acquiring his services for next season.

Lazio president Claudio Lotito has warned off Liverpool and any other interested parties.

“Candreva is not for sale,” Lotito said to Italian radio station Radio Due. “We have not spoken to anyone from PSG and we have not received any offers.”

Candreva is under contract with Lazio until 2018, but spoke last weekend about his desire to play for a top team.

“A player’s ambitions are to do good things and to play at the best clubs and to compete in the Champions League,” Candreva said after Italy’s 2-1 victory over England on Saturday in Manaus.

“I just hope to play a good World Cup, then I will be happy about what will happen.”
