Spain’s Europa Cup winners Sevilla appear confident of keeping their Croatian midfield star Ivan Rakitic from joining either Liverpool or Chelsea by offering the 26-year-old a new three-year contract in the coming weeks according to talkSPORT.

The Croatian international is one of Europe’s most sought after players following a fantastic season in La Liga and a Europa Cup final win over Benfica on Wednesday night.

With just one year remaining on his contract he was being watched closely by a host of European giants including Liverpool, Chelsea, Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Napoli.

Sevilla president Jose Castro Carmona is confident that they can hold on to the playmaker telling Mediaset: “There are no problems with Rakitic, he has another year on his contract, and our goal is to get him to sign a new three-year agreement shortly.”

The former Schalke player has scored 15 goals with 13 assists in all competitions this season.

Rakitic, formerly of Schalke, has scored 15 goals and set up 13 in all competitions this season.
