Spring has been an interesting time for English football, with crucial action taking place at both ends of the Premier League table. While the Manchester clubs continue to battle for the title, their near neighbours Wigan Athletic, Bolton Wanderers and Blackburn Rovers continue to fight hard against relegation.

The case of Blackburn Rovers is an interesting one. In their manager Steve Kean, they have a man who was a hate figure for a vocal section of the club`s support at the start of the season. The vindictiveness and bitterness of the attacks he received had never really been seen in English football before. things have improved massively for him since then and Rovers have played some decent football.

They are far from out of the woods of the relegation scrap though. Bolton Wanderers are one of their main rivals in looking to beat the drop. The heart attack suffered by their midfielder Fabrice Muamba traumatised the whole of football and there were concerns about how his ordeal might affect his team-mates.

The Trotters have taken nine points from the last nine on offer though, beating Blackburn in the process and are making a decent fist of a relegation battle which looked lost at one stage in the campaign. With Queens Park Rangers beating Arsenal and Liverpool in recent weeks, the fight to beat the drop still has plenty of life in it.

Things are not good for Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish though. Having lost six out of the last seven Premier League games, they have an FA Cup semi-final on the horizon against local rivals Everton. The Toffees are feeling confident too. Not only has their league form improved, but their manager David Moyes enjoyed the plaudits of his peers and the wider game at the weekend after serving 10 years as boss at Goodison Park.

Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are locked in a north London battle for Champions League places, which Harry Redknapp`s men may just have sewn up at the weekend with a win over this season`s promotion surprise package Swansea City. Arsenal may have to settle for fourth place this year, with questions continuing to be muttered in some quarters about the future of manager Arsene Wenger.

Elsewhere in London, Chelsea look like they may well miss out on Champions League football, despite their improvement in form under the caretaker management of Roberto Di Matteo. Newcastle United are this season`s rising force and the Toon may yet seal European football.

But neutral viewers of live football streaming will be most interested in what is going on at the top of the table. While Manchester United seem to tighten their grip on the trophy with each passing week, one senses that Roberto Mancini`s Manchester City are not done yet. After all, everyone will wonder what Mario Balotelli will get up to if City do actually beat their rivals to the crown.
