Despite Gunners boss Arsene Wenger saying at his press conference this morning that talk of Arsenal signing Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema was just a story made up by the press, we all know that there is more going on behind the scenes than the 65-year-old Frenchman wants to admit to.

Numerous sources are claiming that the Gunners are not only trying to sign the 27-year-old striker, with the Daily Star this morning running an article suggesting that representatives from the north London club were flying to Madrid to seal the deal.

Even the Spanish press is hinting at a deal being done for the French international, after new Real Madrid trainer Rafa Benitez started Welsh international Gareth Bale in a more central position during the clubs last two friendlies suggesting there may not now be a role in the team for Benzema.

Benzema is seen by many football pundits as the last piece in the puzzle Arsenal needs in order to compete with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City for the Premiership title, and given the money Wenger has available to spend he would be a fool not to pay top dollar for the man who can help bring the title to the Emirates.
