For Southampton striker to be offered his new Liverpool jersey is like a dream come true for Reds new man Rickie Lambert after being given a second chance to play for his boyhood club.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is not done yet either returning to Lamberts former club to try and sign England attacking midfielder Adam Lallana and Croatian international defender Dejan Lovren.

Despite some initial progress Southampton have dug their heels in and are not prepared to sell Lallana for less than £30 million which is £10 million more than the price Liverpool value him at.

In order to get the stalled deal going again the Daily Mirror is reporting that Liverpool is now prepared to through in Italian striker Fabio Borini in the hope that the Saints will see the light and let both Liverpool targets leave.

On a side not Liverpool will play Southampton at Anfield on the opening day of the season.
