The £12 million rated Villarreal striker Luciano Vietto admits he would definitely consider a move to Liverpool after having caught the attention of Reds boss Brendan Rodgers following his 11 goals in 22 appearances for the Spanish club this season.

The 21-year-old Argentinian striker played for Argentine Primera División club, Racing Club, before joining Villarreal in 2014 and could be given his age and price the buy of the summer.

“If these great teams come forward and make an offer we’ll see,’ he told Spanish paper AS.

“The offer would first have to be very good, but it would be very good for me and good for Villarreal.”

Meanwhile Liverpool beat Manchester City 2-1 yesterday thanks to cracking goals from Jordan Henderson and Philippe Coutinho to help keep Liverpool’s push for a top-four finish alive, despite having just arrived back in England two days earlier from Turkey where they were knocked out of the Europa League on penalties by Istanbul club Besiktas.

Rodgers said: “I have to take my hat off to players.

“To get back at half four in the early hours of Friday morning – by the time they got to bed it was six, and they had to sleep all of Friday.

“We then did some light work yesterday, but to come out and play like they did, they were relentless.

“They restricted a top team to just one shot on target and deserve all the praise they will get.”
