If you listen to Spanish football journalist Kike Marin, you will get the impression that Real Madrid star striker Karim Benzema would have been much happier during the summer had he decided to move to Arsenal, rather than to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu and take his chances under new trainer Rafa Benitez.

The 27-year-old French international was heavily liked with a move to the Emirates over the summer, but at the end of the day opted to remain in Spain rather than move to the Premiership.

This decision now seems to have back fired after Benzema admitted he is fed up of being substituted in every game after Benitez has now pulled him off the pitch five times in his last six starts for Real Madrid.

In an article for El Confidencial, Marin also says that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger was willing to pay £36.7 million, and personally tried to persuade his countryman to join him in London.

As we all know all Wenger’s efforts were for nothing, but given the current situation with Benzema and Benitez it might be worth while making another approach in January.
