While it is very difficult to prove if Arsenal is really interested or not in signing former Athletic Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente remains to be seen, after conflicting reports linking him to an £8 million move to the Emirates.

The 6ft 5in Spanish international appears to be on the brink of leaving the Italian champions with Tuttosport claiming that the 30-year-olds agent has been involved in talks with Arsenal.

Llorente would certainly not be Arsene Wenger’s first choice when it comes to signing a striker, but with Karim Benzema unavailable at present, and other top strikers such as Edison Cavani and Gonzalo Higuain demanding premium prices, an £8 million punt on Llorente could prove to be not only the back-up but the competition Olivier Giroud needs to keep his starting spot in Arsene Wenger’s team.

Llorente or not, Arsenal needs to find someone to provide cover for the French striker.
