Appearing for promotional duties at the Sony Center in Madrid, Andrés Iniesta spoke about Pepe and his relationship with Real Madrid’s Portuguese centre-back. The ‘culé’ said he doesn’t see a reason why they can’t be friends one day, despite the disagreements they’ve had.

“Why not? We both made our feelings felt and I said what I thought of him”, said the Manchego in reference to his declarations, published by ‘Sportyou’.

Iniesta was also asked about the elbow to the face that Cristiano Ronaldo received yesterday from Levante’s Javi Navarro. “I didn’t see it. It was probably pretty hard because he didn’t play afterwards”, he stated.

On the topic of youth academies, quite the talking point recently at Real Madrid, Iniesta affirmed that it’s important for reserve players to get chances in the first team. “Every club is different. I’ve been lucky enough to be where I am, and the most important thing is that people believe in the academy. If not, it’s not worthwhile.”

He also gave his view on the supposed face-off between Messi and Villa: “What you saw are things that stay on the pitch” he said, adding that “these things happen in all jobs.”

Finally, he weighed in on the Ballon d’Or: “Leo is the number one. After that, people vote for whoever they see fit. Cristiano is one of the big contenders for this award and all individual prizes.”
