Huge blow to Manchester United after £50m striker target says no!

Manchester United has been dealt a huge blow in the pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani, and could be the reason why Wayne Rooney has been promised his favourite centre-forward role at the club for next season.

Cavani was reported to be high on Red Devil’s manager Louis van Gaal’s summer shopping list, but may have had to change plans when finding out Cavani would not be for sale while conducting negotiations with the French champions over a possible transfer of Argentinian winger Angel Di Maria.

According to the Uruguayan international’s agent, his half-brother, Walter Guglielmone, the 28-year-old striker will stay at the Parc des Princes.

“This summer, Edi has received interest from big clubs who are looking for a centre forward,” Guglielmone told Journal du Dimanche.

“But he has not listened to them because the end of last season gave him guarantees in terms of his position.

“We think that [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic will play further and further away from the front line in order to touch the ball more and that he [manager Laurent Blanc] will leave the striker position to Edinson, which happened several times at the end of last season.

“In these conditions, Edi can only be happy at PSG.”
